Thiru. D. Ananda Rajan was born as the first child to Mr. V.S.K. Duraiswamy Nadar, and Mrs. Annalakshmi Ammal, Following the demise of V.S.K. Duraiswami Nadar, the responsibility to carry forward this noble mission fell upon the capable shoulders of Mr. Rajan. With untiring commitment and a deep sense of purpose, he became the school’s correspondent. Mr. D. Ananda Rajan, holds the distinguished honour of being the driving force behind the establishment of the V.S.K.D. Alumni Association. He began his education at Ramakrishna Mission School (English Medium) but later attended The Doon School from 1945-1950. At The Doon School, his athleticism and boxing skills earned him recognition as the house captain for athletics. He also excelled in sports and won numerous medals for his school, including in the 100-yard run and team relay race. He even had a memorable boxing match against an opponent from Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC).

Apart from sports, Mr. Rajan was an avid photographer and cinephile. His talent for capturing vivid images brought him acclaim nationally and internationally. This interest led him to explore electronic technology and engineering, with the guidance of inspiring teachers.

He cleared the senior Cambridge examination under the tutelage of Mr. K.N.P. Nair went on to study electrical engineering at Faraday House Electrical Engineering College in London. After gaining work experience abroad, he returned to India with a goal to apply his expertise in his homeland.

In 1956, Mr. Rajan joined Parry & Co., Mumbai, and later worked at G.E.C., Kolkata, where he held various roles in departments like Motor starters, Switch boards, Railway signals, and Domestic appliances. His inclination towards product design resulted in the creation of a small electric oven that became popular in Indian households.

Mr. Rajan’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to venture into the paint manufacturing business with his family, and he became the Works Manager at Ravi Paints and Chemicals. He established two additional paint manufacturing units, Brilliant Corporation and Brilliant Paints, in Chennai and Tenkasi. These businesses continue to produce widely used water-based paints.

Despite his successful business ventures, Mr. Rajan’s passion for electrical engineering endured. He remained a member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, London, and held roles such as secretary and treasurer. He also contributed to the industry by serving as the president (southern region) of the Indian Paint Association and assisting small-scale paint and electrical firms.
Known for his generosity and dedication to philanthropy, Mr. Rajan earned the title of “King of Hearts” from the Lions Club of Madras for his efforts in uplifting the lives of others. He left behind a legacy as a dynamic personality with an insatiable thirst for knowledge and a warm and affable nature, which continues to be cherished by his beloved family, friends, and well-wishers.
