We, the students of Std XI were taken on an Industrial visit to the “Pearl City” We started our trip from our school at around 7.45 a.m, we reached the “ Salt Capital of TamilNadu” at around 10 a.m. First we visited “Sasin Plaster of Paris Industry”. There we had the experience of viewing the making of Plaster of Paris [ CaSO4. ½ H2O] from Gypsum [CaSO4. 2 H2O]. then we moved on to visit the salt factory. The workers in the factory explained us the way of preparing iodised salt and they also told us the quantity of Iodine to be added. In that industry before processing and packing, they just collected the salt directly from the salt pan or saline land, we also viewed the saline land from which those salts were taken. We wondered at the hardwork of the workers behind a pack of salt. Then we visited “Nila Sea foods’. We came to know the temperature at which pulses, spices and sea foods were stored. They also told us the duration up to which it can be preserved. Next, we had our lunch at Hotel Banu Biruthavan. Everyone had a nice feast there. At last we visited “Venus Home Appliances Factory” which is one of the largest water heater producers in India. We came to know the principles employed in the making of water heater and the materials which are used in it. We started our journey to Sivakasi around 5 p.m. on the way we had a short refreshment at Thoothukudi Macroon Hotel. Then we came back to Sivakasi at 8 p.m.
