Learning on Wheels: Our Industrial Voyage to Thoothukudi - Report by R. Deeksha, XII A

Learning on Wheels: Our Industrial Voyage to Thoothukudi

On the memorable day of April 11, 2025, we, the students of Class 11, embarked on an enlightening industrial visit to Thoothukudi, guided by our beloved Principal Mam and teachers. The day began at 7:00 a.m. on the school campus, where we gathered in high spirits and offered prayers to Goddess Saraswathi, seeking blessings for a joyful and safe journey. The bus ride was filled with excitement as we kicked the road with high energy, dancing, and creating memories with our friends.

Our first stop was the Sasin Plaster of Paris and Gypsum Plant, where we explored the production process of plaster of Paris. We observed how gypsum is heated to remove water content, producing the fine white powder used in sculptures and interior designs. Watching the machinery in action and learning about safety measures was fascinating. The plant also gifted us samples, making the visit even more memorable.

After that, we visited a salt manufacturing unit, where we were introduced to the different stages involved in salt processing. We were shown how seawater is evaporated in large pans under the sun to produce salt. The focus was on the purification, quality testing, and packaging of salts for both consumption and industrial use. The visit gave us an appreciation for the meticulous work that goes into ensuring the salt we use every day is safe and clean.

Our next visit was to Nila Sea Foods, a modern cold storage and seafood processing unit. It showcased the importance of cleanliness, temperature control, and efficiency in preserving seafood, fruits, and pulses. We gained insights into blast freezing, grading of prawns, and the technology used to maintain cold temperatures during transportation.

Following the enlightening excursions, we had a delectable lunch at a reputable hotel. It was the ideal time to unwind and rejuvenate because of the cozy seats and kind service.

Post-lunch, we explored the Venus Water Heater Manufacturing Unit, where we observed a systematic assembly line—from metal fabrication to coil installation, insulation, and safety testing. It was inspiring to see how engineering and technology come together in everyday appliances.

In order to replenish for the trip back, we stopped at a nearby store to have some evening snacks before continuing on our way. There was dancing, singing, and enjoyable moments on the bus journey back that we will always remember.

Around 8:30 p.m., we finally arrived at our school’s campus, exhausted but brimming with amazing memories and life-changing events. We learned the worth of effort put into every product we use and gained a practical knowledge of subjects we had studied in textbooks.
This industrial tour was the ideal combination of education and fun. We are truly thankful to our school management, Principal Mam, and teachers for organizing such a valuable experience.

“Each place we visited added a brushstroke to the canvas of our curiosity—painting a picture we’ll cherish forever.”
